A Review of Smite! :: 2012-11-09 15:51:20 MST :: posted by Mystic

Hello everyone! This week we had the pleasure to review an up coming moba game, Smite. With that being said let us talk a bit about the game. A "MOBA" is a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. The objective of the Moba genre is for each team to destroy their opponents' base, which is heavily guarded with structures. Those structures in Smite are called Towers and Phoenixes. There is a catch though! Through out the game you must destroy the structures first, to be able to push forward towards your opponents' base. Not to mention, all of those structures can and will attack you.

In Smite, each player has the ability to play a god from a pantheon. Hi-Rez, the company behind Smite, has done their research when it comes to building a game based on mythology. What we mean to say is their ability to keep the lore right on for the gods is amazing. Not to mention their art work for the gods is stunning. They have done a perfect balance of taking the images of how we saw the gods and updating the artwork for a video game. As if that wasn't cool enough, they did something special for the end of every match. Regardless if you win or lose, your god has a special animation they do at the end of the score screen. This animation can only be seen during that screen and will be based on the out come of your game.
With that being said, there are currently 6 pantheons in Smite: Greek, Egyptian, Chinese, Roman, Hindu  and Norse.
From the Greek Pantheon you have: Artemis, Arachne, Hades, Zues, and Ares.
The Egyptian Pantheon has: Anhur, Anubis, Bastet, Ra, and Sobek.
Mean while the Norse have: Hel, Odin, Ymir, Freya, and Loki.
For the Chinese Pantheon, you currently have: Ao Kuang, Guan Yu, He Bo, and Sun Wukong.
In the Hindu Pantheon is: Agni, Bakasura, Kali, and Vamana.
However, the Roman Pantheon only has one god representing them on the battle grounds at this moment and that god is Cupid.

So what do all these gods and goddess have to prove? Their strenght on the battleground of the gods! They not only want to prove their strength, but they wish to represent their pantheon as the best one out there! It is possible that the battleground is also used to settle disputes and some decision making, instead of having to flip a coin.

What we can tell you for fact is that Hi-Rez has based each god off of its mythological counterpart in regards to their artwork and even their lore. As we reviewed this game we took the time to review some of our personal favorite gods. For our CEO that god was Ares, the god of war. One thing that our CEO loved about Ares was his ability to focus down other gods. This allowed him to play a vital role during team fights. He was not only able to damage enemy gods, but he was able to buff allied gods, while having the ability to stun them and help his team kill them.

The CEA on the other hand did not play a god that she knew much about. Instead she played a god that looked the most interesting to her and fell in love with the God, Hel, immediately. Hel has a dual personality thing going, where she has the ability to switch from Light to Dark stances. If Hel is in her light stance she has the ability heal herself, buff allies, remove crowd control effects, protect them from future ones and can heal a small area around her. However, when Hel is in Dark stance she has the ability to due large amounts of burst damage, debuff enemies while removing some of their magical protection and slowing them. Our CEA strongly believes that Hel has the ability to play a hybrid role between carry and team support.

There were other gods that we rather enjoyed during the process of reviewing Smite. Arachne, the weaver, was one of those gods. She has the ability to drain life, thus healing herself. Further more she can summoner broodlings to help her fight where ever she would like, up to 3 max. Not to mention her ability to slow down enemies or pull them to her and stun them! This is one god that you would never want weaving you a wonderful coat, much less your own fate!

The last god we fell in love with during this review was Bastet, the Goddess of cats. Cats have been known for the ability to pounce without any warning, just like Bastet. May Ra help you if you get caught in Bastet's claws, cause she will shred you to pieces! Even worse is if you kill her, because of her passive, she has a reduced respawn timer. This powerful cat goddess has the ability to pounce to you, scratch you and pounce back away, before you even have a chance to respond. If that wasn't enough, she has the ability to summoner 3 cats to her side that sensing the smell of blood, will attack bleeding enemies first. The summoned cats gain more health per rank. So not only is Bastet beautifully dressed in her gold goddess attire, but she is also deadly. When you get the chance to play Smite, we recommend you try her out. The sound effects they have attached to this wonderful feline goddess, is amazing.

As much as we wanted to write more about the Gods of Smite, we figured it better to stop there and tell you to go visit their website so you can go join them in the battlegrounds of the gods. For those of you already playing Smite, may you have a victorious battle!
